my bamboo fiber shirt post on Ebay!

Finally, after two weeks back in California, I posted the bamboo shirt I bought in China on Ebay yesterday.

Here is the link:
my Ebay post

Now I'm sitting in my office while nervously waiting for someone to bid my shirt. It's good stuff. All my coworkers agree. Here comes the questions: how can I promote my shirts on Ebay since I have no previous selling history? How can I drive people's attention to my post in such a big pool of Ebay listings?

I'll look for the answer in the following days, and hope someone will buy my shirt before the end of the bidding period. I wonder how some Ebay sellers can make a living just by selling stuff on Ebay.

My China trip in June,2007

I've been back from China for two weeks and always wanted to write about my trip since I came back. After the two weddings which took most of my last two weekends' time, I finally found myself with a peaceful mind. i guess now is the time to write.

In the following blogs, I'll divide my experiences in Shanghai, Xi'an in series with some picture taken there. Hope this time I can get more attention than before. haha.....

the Al Gore speech last Wednesday

The former vice president Al Gore gave a speech last Wednesday at the Santa Clara Convention Center. That was part of the annual conference held by HYSTA, the Hua Yuan Science and Technology Association, mainly consisting of Chinese engineers and entrepreneurs in sillicon valley.

As a Chinese engineer and as a Santa Clara local, I felt obliged and honored to go to his speech. At sharp 7:30pm, Gore showed up on the stage. I noticed he looked slightly smaller than two months ago on the Academy Awards show. Is that because he's been working out or it's just the TV's expanding effect? I have no idea.

He started the speech by telling a joke. He said, " once when I was sitting in the lounge in LA, I woman passed me several times from different directions, and finally said to me,' You would look exactly like Al Gore if you could dye your hair!" Everyone started laughting and felt much relaxed.

Then, Gore started his famous slides show on global warming. Since I watched the DVD"an Inconvenient Truth" at home already, I could tell the beginning of the slides were some extracts from the movie. I guess he did this because there are still a remarkably group of people who haven't watched this movie. As the slides went on, I was striked and shocked by more updated data since the movie was made last year. One slide showed that the past winter was the warmest winter in history, and this year 2007 will be the hottest year on earth!

Gore brought our attention to green island, an island close to arctic, covered by the eternal ice cap for centuries. Not any more. The ice cap is melting much much faster than estimated. Normally, ice reflects 90% of the sun beam while water absorbs most of it. Since the water temperature is increasing, the ice started melting to water which absorbs more sun beam and bring to a even higher temperature. Before scientists thought it might take 1000 years before the ice cap melt away, but now it could melt down in our life time, which will increase the overall sea level about 6 meters and immerse cities close to the sea. He said the time could probably be 20-30 years which is a very short period of time on earth.

In the end, Gore mentioned that China is topping US very soon as the country with the biggest carbon dioxide emmision. I felt so embarrased to hear that and even worse that China is still planning to build 500 coal based power plants. It's going to be a huge greenhouse mass! No wonder the climate in China is getting warmer and warmer. However, US still has the highest carbon emmision per person!

The global warming topic is very depressing, but Gore made it possitive. From his presentation, I think people would be more cautious and careful at saving energy in life. He gave the speech for free to the Chinese audiance, which probably means he's trying to deliver the message to the Chinese government. I sincerely hope someone sitting there would do it.
